ASUU Extends Strike Again by Four Weeks

ASUU extends strike again by four weeks after an emergency meeting held by the Union’s National Executive Council on Sunday.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced an extension of its ongoing strike. The strike is set to last for four weeks.

The announcement was made on Monday, August 1, 2022. It was made in a statement issued and signed by its National president, Emmanuel Osodeke. The statement cited, the failure of Nigerian government to fulfill its promises and heed to their call as the reason for the extension of the strike.

The statement noted that the decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the Union’s National Executive Council on Sunday, held at University of Abuja.

The union said, the emergency meeting of its executive council was necessitated by the Nigerian government who has failed to show commitment towards resolving the lingering issue.

The union said, the additional four weeks will be observed to monitor the government’s seriousness and commitment to address the issue.

The Union, however, thanked the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC), Affiliate Unions and Civil Society Organizations for staging a nationwide protest between 26th and 27th of July.
